Tender Hearts Club and the crooked path of fucking-up, falling down & trying again.

What is a ‘Tender Heart’ you ask?

It is that place where you are vulnerable enough to understand you will never get it right 100% of the time, but you will keep trying again and again, because trying is the most honest thing you can do.

Connecting with the Snail Spirit, and slowing down to experience the now.

Connecting with the Snail Spirit, and slowing down to experience the now.

When I launched the first Tender Hearts Club in February of 2020, the world was only whispering of COVID-19; there was no understanding of the collective uprising against racism, hatred and police brutality that would wash over us; and I personally had no idea how isolated I would feel after months of not being able to hug my friends, brush up against a stranger, or see the smile of someone passing on the street. The course was an offering of my own experience gained over two years of confronting myself; prompted by a cancer scare, that led to a mental health emergency, a complete lack of knowing who I was, and a need to find and love myself on my own terms; not one defined by toxic masculinity and shame.

The Pandemic and the current fight to end systematic racism in our country have taught me that we can never REALLY KNOW. We can struggle to put our lives and collective futures in a box, but the reality is all we are doing is building baracades to the space where anything is possible; the great unknown. As Frida Kahlo says, “Don’t build a wall around your suffering. It may devour yu from the inside.”

So let’s stop trying to box ourselves into a constructed idea of the future, and start stepping into the expansive potential of who we fully are right NOW.

This is the work of the Tender Hearts Club (THC), a 16-day, virtual women’s group that explores how the most revolutionary act of all — to love ourselves — deeply and profoundly connects us all. The next THC begins Sunday, August 16th and is a pay-what-you-can offering. Are you in?!

In this moment, we all have a choice. We can commit to be open (most especially when its hard), and reaffirm our knowing of ourselves. Or we can turn away, and loose the the collective support of community in the process. The THC affirms our inner toolbox of knowledge, re-reminding us that when the outside world crumbles as we know it, we remain standing through the power of the shared (and tender) heart.

Thus, I cannot think of a better time to commit to reconnecting with our inner light. This self-work is not only essential for your own being, it is essential for our families and communities and the world we interact in. Because, only when we love ourselves, can we truly be the Warriors of Love (Bodhisattvas) the world so desperately needs right now.

Don’t build a wall around your suffering. It may devour you from the inside.
— Frida Kahklo

  • Our desire is that finances not be a constraint to committing to yourself for this work.

Special Offering: For women local to the Gunnison Valley, a very special IN-PERSON, COVID-safe, outdoor ceremonial gathering will happen on August 29th, at Round Mountain Farm. This offering has very limited space due to following proper COVID precautions, and will be offered first to Tender Heart Club participants. The gathering will include a somatic hike, fire ceremony, and intention setting. Overnight camping can be arranged by contacting Nancy Wicks directly. It is open to all female-identifying beings.
